Books by Monthly Theme

I chose to do my inquiry project on books that corresponded with a monthly theme. My hope is that this would assist me as an educator in organizing our classroom library. This graphic is just a sample of the many books that are available for the themes that I chose that correspond with holidays, seasons, and important topics.

I intend to use this inquiry project as a resource in my future classroom to surround students with rich literature in order to help them have a love of reading and to see that reading can be a meaningful way to engage with the world!

Documenting My Free Inquiry Progress

When I first started gathering books with a monthly theme, I wasn’t quite sure how many themes to put in one post. I soon realized that sticking to one theme per post was more efficient and meaningful. I also realized that in the beginning I had the time to think about cross curricular activities and by my final post I either forgot or classes and time were just moving too fast.

I feel much more proficient in using the wordpress platform to curate my findings. I’m able to add read-alongs, hyperlinks and photos to my posts now, whereas at the beginning, it was a very steep learning curve. I also found some helpful resources along the way. Epic! books is a great resource for finding any theme or topic you’re looking for, and even has the added bonus of telling you what age the book is geared to. It also offers readalouds which is a great way to build vocabulary and pronunciation in emerging readers.

Upon reflecting on this free inquiry project, I feel that I have learned many new computer skills, and also organizational skills as I organized what books would go with certain months and themes. I am planning on completing the rest of the months in the school year as I only went to February in this project.
